Is there a restroom on board?
Our offshore boats do have a cabin with a restroom. The inshore boats are smaller open boats and do not have a restroom.
What happens if there is bad weather?
If conditions will be unsafe the charter will be canceled and any charges refunded. We leave the call up to the captain. High wind, lightning, heavy rain are usually what will cause a charter to be canceled.
Is there anything we need to bring?
You do not have to bring anything. The cost of the charter covers everything for fishing (boat, bait, captain, licensing, tackle and equipment). Any drinks or snacks you may want are available for purchase at check-in.
Can we bring a cooler?
There is a cooler with ice provided on the fishing boats that you are welcome to use. In the interest of space it best to use that one.
What can we expect to catch?
There are a variety of species. As is the nature of fishing, the catch can vary from day to day and season to season. The captain will do his best to get you on whatever fish will give you the best opportunity at getting a bite. These are some of the expected species by season.
Spring Fish - Sea Bass, Sheep's Head, Black Drum, Sharks, Red Fish, Trout and King Mackerel
Summer Fish - Big Sharks, King Mackerel, Spanish Mackerel, Barracuda, Tarpon, Jack Crevelle and Cobia
Fall Fish - Red Fish, Sharks, Spanish Mackerel, Sea Trout, Barracuda, Tarpon and King Mackerel
Can we keep the fish we catch?
For fishing charters at Shelter Cove Marina, yes. If the fish are within the legal size limits and species that are permitted to keep, You can keep them. The captain will filet the fish for you after the charter.
What is your cancellation policy?
All of our activities and charter's cancellation policies differ slightly. Please reference the following information after identifying the charter company you have selected:
Once the reservation is made, any cancellation outside 48 hours from the start of the rental will result in a $100 charge. Cancellations within 48 hours of the start of your trip will result in a charge for the full amount of the reservation. Weather cancellations are made by the operator only.
100% refund given for cancellation due to weather conditions and when you cancel prior to the 72 hour window. There are no refunds if you cancel within **72 hours** of your boat tour or if you are late to arrive for your boat tour (always a full refund for bad weather).
Customers may cancel anytime prior to the trip and get a full refund as longs as they give us 24 hour notice. Any cancellations within 24 hours of scheduled trip will be charged the full amount of the trip. The Captain can cancel the trip anytime for weather or any other reason with a full refund. No refunds or credit given for late arrivals or not showing up for the trip.
Customers will receive a full refund with 24 hours notice of cancellation. Customers will also receive a full refund in case of operator cancellation due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances. Contact us by phone to cancel or inquire about a cancellation. No-shows will be charged the full price.
We require a 24 hour notice of any cancellations. Changes in number of guests must be called in.
Hilton Head Island Sailing (Flying Circus)
Guests may cancel individual reservations up to 7 days in advance of their reservation, without penalty, and receive a full refund. Reservations cancelled within that time frame are subject to full payment, unless the space can be resold. Company reserves the right to cancel any trip for weather, unsafe conditions or mechanical issues. All charters are subject to “Captain’s Call” as to cancellation of a trip due to weather, etc. If weather were questionable, captain would make final decision at the time of the charter. In the event a trip is cancelled by the captain, guests may reschedule, or receive a refund. Please call Jeanne at 843-686-2582 for all advance cancellations and further charter information. Cancellations cannot be accepted via email.

Parties of 10 or less may cancel your reservation up to 24 hours in advance of your sailing time. We do not offer refunds for cancellations with less than 24 hours notice, no exceptions. Parties of more than 10, must provide 48 hours notice. We do not offer refunds within 24 hours, regardless of the circumstances. Holding a reservation is done at your own risk. Cap'n Tanner reserves the right to cancel any trip in the event of steady rain, thunderstorms, high winds or any condition that the Captain deems unsafe. We will attempt to notify you at least one hour prior to check-in when possible. Cancellations are at the sole discretion of Cap'n Tanner. If we cancel your trip for any reason, you will not be charged or we will issue you a refund.
