Celebrating the Heart of the Shelter Cove Marina
Â
National Harbormaster Day is an annual celebration held on October 8th to recognize and show appreciation for the vital role that harbormasters play in managing harbors and keeping the waterfronts safe & efficient.

And today we celebrate our very own Harbormaster here at Shelter Cove Harbour & Marina, Mason Lemon! Mason grew up on Hilton Head Island fostering his passion for marina life at a young age. As time went on, he became well-versed in the field.

Mason worked on the water here at Shelter Cove Harbour & Marina for five summers, then attended Clemson to study travel and tourism management. Post-college he spent three-and-a-half years working in marinas from Virginia to Texas, including Virginia’s Tidewater Yacht Marina, whose 300 slips kept him busy.

The Role of Harbormaster at Shelter Cove Marina

Now, Mason is in his 3rd year as the Harbormaster at Shelter Cove Harbour & Marina, managing all 178 slips at Shelter Cove, and stays busy overseeing dockhands, commercial charters and the Marina Ship’s Store retail shop.

Â
Mason is a true steward of the Harbour – working long hours for his team, his guests and his marina community to ensure the day-to-day operations run smoothly.

From everyone here at Shelter Cove Harbour and Marina, thank you Mason, for your dedication to our marina! Your leadership and commitment continue to make Shelter Cove a standout destination on Hilton Head Island. Because of the dedication and hard work of your staff, Shelter Cove Harbour & Marina has been recognized as The Island Packet & Beaufort Gazette’s 2025 Lowcountry’s Best Marina, a 2024 Marinas.com Elite Fleet Award Winner, and the Best Harbour in the U.S. Southeast Region Winner.
