So who is the “Native” behind Native Son Adventures? Captain Byron Sewell was born in Savannah, GA, because there was no hospital on Hilton Head Island at that time. "Byronie" grew up barefoot, covered in sand & salt. His home was a modest beach cottage in North Forest, just steps from the Atlantic, and he was baptized by the ocean at three weeks old. It is safe to say, he is a son of the sea.
Byron’s dad, “Hurricane” Hampton Sewell, was well known up and down the East Coast for being a true waterman and pioneer surfer of his era. Following his father’s footsteps, Byron grew up fishing, surfing, and exploring his little island paradise. In 1998, at 25 years old, he started Native Son Fly Fishing and light tackle guide services. He was one of Hilton Head's few flats skiff charter guides. After spending time on expeditions in New Zealand, Australia and the French Polynesian outer islands, Captain Sewell has come back to teach visitors from all over and share his love for Hilton Head Island.

Best fishing and boat trip ever! “Wow!!! We just had the greatest experience on the water w/ our captain @ Native Son Adventures!!! He took us out on an amazing tour of Hilton Head Island & then to his secret fishing spots! The boat ride was amazing and comfy & he taught us a lot about the waters, tides, history and local way of life! We were catching huge bull reds the minute he had us drop our lines! Our captain knew the waters very well and was on the fish! He explained that they were too big to keep and taught us about sustainable fishing in Hilton Head. He also showed us his favorite spots and found us a huge shark tooth! We definitely recommend this fishing tour and can’t wait to do it again!
